Old Market To the New for Kuching Folks!!

The old Gambier Market which have been constructed since 1935 have finally close down for business effective today, (Sunday) 15 June 2008.

This market place is the busiest as it is situated in the heart of the city and Kuching Folks from all over the place tends to get their marketing done each day. You can purchase everything there, poultry, pork, vegetables, fish, prawns, etc..... as well as stalls selling all types of local cakes, which locals call it 'Kuih Muih'.

From the pictures above, traders are still seen busy doing their business despite that it is their last day that is 14 June 2008. These photos were taken on the same day at about 12 noon, as we take a stroll through the market place for the last time.

However, with the closure of the old market, Kuching Folks can now look forward to the new 'Stutong Community Market' which starts business today, 15 June 2008. This new market should be able to attract more people as it is spacious, big, new, clean and off course more parking space for all.
