The Gift Of Real True Friends

Friendship is a very important gift in each and everyone's life, but how many really have true friends??

A true friend is one that really cares in good times as well as in bad. One that will pop-in or give you a call whenever possible and most of all a true friend is one that really remembers you!

"Everyone is a friend, until they prove otherwise"

The above saying is really true, as everyone is considered a "friend". Time will only tell whether he/she is a true friend! I can really tell that there are not many true friends around and the moment you are not around them you will be left out of their circle of friends - some even behave as if you are a stranger to them! The relationship built all these years can be gone just like that!!! The proverb below really proves it all..........

"Out of sight, out of mind"

For those who have experienced this situation will agree with me, but those who haven't, it is just a matter of time to get there.

I would like to share this beautiful poem with all great people out there.........

The Gift Of Real True Friends

Friendship is a priceless gift,
that cannot be bought or sold,
But its value is worth far greater,
than the mountain made of gold-
For gold is col
d, lifeless
it can neither see nor hear,
And in the time of trouble,
it is powerless to cheer-
it has no ears to listen
no heart to understand
it cannot bring you comfort
or reach out a helping hand-
So when you ask God for a gift
be thankful if he sends
Not diamonds, pearls nor riches,
But the love of real true friends!

Children bullies

Children bullies in school is rather common, and is scary to the affected children, thus it is a parent's main concern.

All my three children experienced children bully in their Kindergarten and Primary School days. Children who are fragile or behave quietly are the ones most likely to be picked on by a bully. Most children when attacked by a bully often feel ashamed and don't want to talk about it. Luckily my children reported to us after several times being bullied and this really helps as the situations can be settled earlier with the knowledge of both the parents and teachers.

Recently I've read an article on "Why are some children bullies?" Guess, it is of great interest to all as it enables us to understand the whole situation and also helps to prevent such happenings within the family, as it has something to do with the upbringing of children. So, here's to share.........

Why are some children bullies?

Bullies are at the top of the list of things that many schoolchildren worry most about. The classic bully is someone who needs to feel in control by dominating others. Psychologists have found that bullies are often raised by parents who do not teach them how to negotiate or share.

These parents typically resort to harsh and arbitrary physical punishment that reflects their own moods more than anything else. After many early lessons in erratic parental attacks, a bully misreads the actions of others. When a youngster accidentally bumps into a bully in the lunch line, for instance, the bully will mistake it for an attack and start a fight.

Because a bully has never learned the value of sharing or cooperation, getting along with others is not a priority. Often bullies become more unhappy and aggressive with age. They are more likely to drop out of school and have trouble with the law.

A Public Holiday round the corner!

Well! Well! Guess all Malaysians are looking forward to the coming up Public Holiday, which coincides with the weekend......... an additional day to relax and most of all to unwind!

Popular spots within our country Malaysia must be packed with visitors - Genting Highland Resort & Cameron Highland in West Malaysia, Santubong Resort, Damai Puri Resort & Spa and Holiday Inn Damai Beach Resort in Kuching as well as many other popular places of interests in Sabah, just to name a few.

Others might just prefer to stay in their home sweet home, doing some gardening or any other things of their interests - as long as away from their normal daily schedules.........

There are many ways to break away from our normal daily routines or schedules, or a simple term to use "unwind"........ I've heard an article which says, "recalling back the memories of a great holiday can also helps to unwind". I really agree with this fact and that's why whenever I'm bored and tired or needs to unwind, I'll make a point to "visit" my photo albums!! It always brings back sweet memories and happiness of each and every trips that we make to a particular place for a holiday......... This really helps, so if you have not experience it, then try this tips....... really hope it works for you too!!

So friends, get ready to unwind and enjoy the upcoming holiday!!

Eat Till You Drop!

Being the last day for the Kuching Food Festival at Dewan Masyarakat, Padungan Road......... the place is packed with people as early as five, with the sun still shining brightly across the sky!!

Everywhere people are seen busy queuing up at each food stalls to purchase their favourite foods. Cars are seen parking along the road sides as well as the parking space opposite the road. As long as there are good food, no one seems to bother about taking a walk to the premise of the food fare, with their vehicles parked a distance away.........

It is indeed a blessing that this week is a School Holiday, and today, being the last day of the school holiday, parents tends to treat their children to the varieties of food at the fair. So, don't miss the good food, go ahead and "Eat Till You Drop" or else you'll have to wait for another year to come!

"Enjoy eating my friends......."

Christian Poem - An Inspiring Alphabet

I would like to share this wonderful poem by an Unknown Author with all.........

An Inspiring Alphabet

Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in happy giving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
Good is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without God's love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking God for all the things
Love imparts to thee
More out of "Self Complaining"
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Prayer can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To "thank" is a command
Until we get blessings
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
X pect from God most high
Yes, there will be some bad times and there will be some good, but.......
Zzzz peacefully at night ....... you're in the care of God!

What a special day today **20082008**

It really didn't cross my mind to realise what a special day it is today!! It is only after receiving an E-Mail from an old classmate, who is also my ex-colleague that I come to know of it. Thanks to my great friend Lena for including me in your mail list, which I knew many won't do that!!

**20082008**

This so-called "Double Match" happens only once in a lifetime, and we are indeed lucky to have the opportunity to observe this day as well as be in it. The double eight....... to the Chinese means 'double prosperity'!! So...... today is sure to be a lucky day for many........

"Have a wonderful special day & God Bless us always"

'Road Safety' reminders!

I'm so touched with the 'Road Safety' reminder which I've heard few times since Sunday morning, aired through the 'Lite FM' Radio program.

It is really true that many drivers these days tends to weave in and out of the road like a 'mad man'. If everyone out there is so busy till they have to rush, then who on earth is not busy???? We must accept the fact that everyone is busy - but do we have a good time management?? Guess not, or else such a situation won't happen. In my earlier blog "Impatient drivers on the increased........" dated 23rd July, I did quote some points there, so do care to refer back - Thanks!

I also tend to agree that, if anyone needs to rush (weave in and out of the road) while having some medical emergencies - that is excusable. There is no reason to question anything related to 'life or dead!' But, lets think hard....... how many who rushes each day is having a good reason for excuse??? I think it won't be many........ most are due to habitual late!

Another point which I really agree with Lite FM is "Don't weave in and out, leave the weaving to the basket makers!" So! since the basket makers are busy with their weaving, then the drivers can fully concentrate on the road safety of their own as well as the others.

Remember that "Road Safety" is everyone's responsibility! Even one irresponsible person can caused harm to the lives of others. So, let's all be responsible citizens so as to ensure safety to all........ "Happy Driving"

Why is the first day of school so hard?

I really find this article of great interests, especially to young parents, who, maybe in a few years time will come to experience this situation. But for those who have already experienced it, it might still be helpful - be more wiser when comes to handling your grandchildren......... We must always remember that each day we learn additional things, thus we tend to be more wiser and bearing in mind that there is no limit of being wise!

Why is the first day of school so hard?

Most children going to a school for the first time experience some degree of what experts call separation anxiety. Suddenly, the idea of being cut off from one's mother (or father, or both) and left among strange people in alien surroundings, if only for a few hours, can fill a child with emotions that are close to panic.

Children sometimes respond by reverting to infantile behavior. A five year-old may act like a toddler, crying for Mom or Dad to stay. Fortunately, most children are rather quick to adapt and such desperate behavior does not usually last long.

Some psychologists suggest that parents take a child to visit the teacher and classroom in advance as a way of reducing a child's anxieties. As a rule, the calmer the parents are, the calmer their children will be. However, remoteness will not reassure a child. Rather, the parent should matter-of-factly try to convey the idea that child, teacher, and parent will be able to work out any problems together.

When the time comes for a parent to leave a child at school, a clear good-bye is important. If the parent tries to sneak out, the child may feel his or her trust has been betrayed and become even more upset at the parent's sudden disappearance.

If a child seems apprehensive about school, it may be helpful to bring a favorite toy from home. One teacher had her kindergarteners create a family photo album during their first week of school. For many of them, it was comforting to turn to their albums when they felt anxious about being away from home. Treasured reminders can often comfort children whose longing for home may interfere with their enjoyment of the new experience of school.

Is a positive, happy attitude really good medicine?

Here's another good article which I've read recently for sharing.........

Is a positive, happy attitude really good medicine?

Many people believe that a happy mental outlook can directly defeat physical disease. In Anatomy of an Illness as Perceived by the Patient, writer Norman Cousins described his battle with a severe joint ailment called ankylosing spondylitis. Told that his doctors could do no more for him, he checked out of the hospital and spent weeks watching Marx brothers movies and other comedies. Cousins believes that laughter and the positive feelings it aroused in him were vital factors in his recovery.

Centuries earlier, wise observers of the human condition noted a connection between laughter and health. The Book of Proverbs tells us that "a mercy heart doeth good like a medicine."

One researcher reports that the sense of well-being and alertness imparted by laughing 100 times a day is equivalent to that derived from 10 minutes of rowing.

Some doctors remain skeptical. But others agree that laughter eases pain and may help the respiratory system by exercising the lungs. There is also evidence that laughter and other positive emotions can influence the immune system, perhaps by stimulating production of certain hormones. Recognizing the value of humor, some hospitals encourage visits from clowns or provide "laughter rooms," where comic films are shown.

There is a danger, however, in putting so much faith in positive thinking that you blame yourself - or some other person - for not trying hard enough to get well. Marcia Angell, M.D., has written in the New England Journal of Medicine: "In our desire to pay tribute to gallantry and grace in the face of hardship, we sometimes credit these qualities with cures, not realizing that we may also be implying blame when there are reverses. At a time when patients are already burdened by disease, they should not be further burdened by having to accept responsibility for the outcome."

Give out your 'Best-Wide' smile today.........

Friends, we have been trying our very best to give our smiles to all people around us throughout this week of 'National Smile Week'....... How blessed we are to have this special week of the year to reminds us to smile....... and how important it is to our lives!

I believe that most of us are too busy to ever think of how wonderful and miraculously smiles can brings to each individual lives, especially at a time when we are most frustrated or down........ Just imagine....... if a person comes along (whether friends or strangers) at a time when we are unhappy, and seeing that person smiling to us, automatically we will give a smile back, right??? Meaning...... our unhappy, long faces will be changed to a smiling face!!! That's why it is always said that "SMILE always brings cheers to everyone's face"

Let me share with all friends a short poem by Kira Jadan on Smile......

Smile........

A smile is contagious
So smile to someone new
They'll smile at someone else
It'll pass on to more people too
Not only human smiles........ animals too can smile - real sweet haah!

See what I mean?????
Never loose to them - so if you can't beat them 'join them!'

Article about Cats [Part 4]

We all know that cats are very playful domesticated animals, even if you flip a piece of string around it will sure run excitedly after it. It is really interesting to observe cats in such a situation - not only will the cat feel excited, we too will be excited to see them chasing around that piece of string!! My next article to share is "Cats at Play".........

One of the most rewarding aspects having cats as pets is to watch them especially the young kittens at play either among themselves or with their parents.

However, what we prefer to as 'play' of the kitten is actually a very important aspect of 'learning' for the kittens, usually from their mother.

Most of the 'play' actions which either the kittens go through instinctively or the mother 'teaches' them, consists of movements related to catching the prey, fighting an enemy or escaping from a
dangerous situation. Such movements include mock fights, biting and scratching without inflicting wounds, pouncing, avoiding the opponent's attacking and running away.

It is interesting to note that kittens take alternately the role of the attacker and they attacked over and over, in addition to being an enjoyable physical fitness exercise, play also helps the kittens to develop muscular coordination and survival skills.

Another function of play is that as communal activity it develops sociability with own kin. A single kitten reared without playmates or play things develops into a neurotic and aggressive cat.

Oh...... see those cute 'playful' cats at PLAY!

Smile Always!

Smile Always!
Smile man, smile! Always smile!
Smile all life and smile in style;

Smiling makes one worriless;

And makes you happy and less tense.

The Value of SMILE........

The Value of SMILE..........

It costs nothing, but creates much,
It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give,
It happens in a flush and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich that they can get along without it, and
None are so poor but are richer for it's benefits.
It creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in a business and is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad,
and natures best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be begged, borrowed or stolen,
For it is of no earthly good to anybody till it is given away.
Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.........

Hey friends....... today is say 'Cheese' Day and giving out a smile will be the best perk for the day......... National Smile Week is celebrated during the 2nd week of August, that is from 10th to 16th August 2008. So, for this special week, let's spread smiles and giggles to brighten up our days and also those of our friends.......... "Happy Smiling"........

Possible solutions for stress

"Stress is like an iceberg. We can see one-eighth of it above, but what about what's below?"

I've read an article by Janice Kumar on stress and finds it interesting, thus would like to share two of her possible solutions with all friends...........

Reducing Foods
You may be able to reduce stress by changing your diet. Foods and beverages that are helpful can be found in many stores. Herbal teas such as chamomile and peppermint have a calming effect. Foods high in vitamin B-6 like yeast extracts, liver, whole grains, nuts and bananas are categorized as stress preventer. Citrus fruits, bell peppers and baked potatoes are rich in vitamin C, which helps the human body to maintain resistance to infection when under stress.

Good Night's Sleep
Sleep deprivation is one of the leading causes of stress. And stress is one of the leading causes of insomnia. It is important to maintain a regular sleep routine, avoiding large meals just before sleeping and getting regular exercise. It is also important to avoid exercise just before sleep time and extremely important to buy a comfortable bed and pillows. Ensure you have the right blankets and comfortable room temperature which makes you fall asleep naturally.

Darkness everywhere.........

The black-out of electricity can really caused great chaos........ It all started just before seven just now, we were still in church attending Mass halfway - so the priest have to speed-up or else there will be complete darkness.......

In our mind, its just certain areas of Kuching only....... but gradually found out that it happens to the whole of Kuching and....... my daughter called to inform that there is total darkness in their Campus in Miri........ Gosh....... can that be black-out for the whole of Sarawak?????? Wonder..... Wonder........

As we are on our way out of church, we experienced traffic jam everywhere - some more everywhere is dark. "Oh.... no..... knowing very well my eye sight is not good at night and worst is have to drive in the dark...... and not only that..... no traffic light!!" But luckily the traffic police are there on duty - Thank you very much for being present in such a chaotic situation...... God Bless you all!

Our first plan is to eat out but....... everywhere is fully packed...... so in the end we ended up eating McD in the comfort of our own home. Upon reaching home, the electricity is also being restored - for our area only...... the rest not sure!! Never experienced such a big black-out before........????

A great, great Opening Ceremony indeed!!

Watch the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic last night........ Wow! Its really great!! The beautiful 'Bird-Nest' Stadium, with beautiful, flickering lightings all over............ The battering of the different kinds of fireworks are really gorgeous - have seen lots of fireworks but this time it's really....... no words can describe it .......

The roll of thunder from two thousand fou drums is real great indeed!! The sequence of the drum beat and the lights are fantastic - off course thumbs-up for those artistic performers, for without them and their efforts there won't be a ceremony as such!

Another thing which I enjoyed is the way they introduce the Scroll, the dancers/performers do sketching as they roll and dance...... Fantastic performances indeed!! Aha..... can also see performers flying in the mid air........ great right??? Oh..... it's really a night full of great, great performances...........

Finally, off course is the lighting of the Olympic Torch - its really superb, gorgeous and very unique indeed!! Its really the first of its kind ever seen in Olympics history....... the combination of the old with the new and there goes the fabulous outcome..........

A Cooool, 'triple eight' Day........

It has been raining since early morning....... thought this 'triple eight' day will be a bright sunny day!! Anyway, it's good to have some rain - just to chase away the haze....... as the day before is rather hazy!

8th August 2008 will be another history for Beijing, especially being a Chinese Country....... the 2008 Olympic which begins on this special day is bearing three 8's. Well...... chinese always believes in the number '8'....... and there is never any doubt!!!

So, for us who are unable to be there....... don't worry...... we won't be left out! We too can follow the events happening in Beijing through TV or Astro....... Good Luck to all the participants and wish them every success......... "Hip, Hip, Hurray".........

Bringing Up Baby: A Doctor's Prescription for Busy Parents

I've come across this great tips for all young, busy-working parents by Dr. T. Berry Brazelton. Hope it will be of great help to those who are in need.

Juggling work and family can often seem overwhelming. Here Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, himself the father of three girls and a boy, offers some practical advice for easing the strain on working parents, those two-job couples who are so much a part of our world today. A practicing pediatrician for more than 40 years, Dr. Brazelton has never lost his enthusiasm for helping children (and their parents) over life's rough spots.
  • Learn to compartmentalize ~ when you work, be there, and when you are at home, be at home.
  • Prepare yourself for separating each day. Then prepare the child. Accompany him or her to the care giver.
  • Allow yourself to grieve about leaving your baby ~ it will help you find the best substitute care, and you'll leave the child with a passionate parting.
  • Let yourself feel guilty. Guilt is a powerful force for finding solutions.
  • Find others to share your stress ~ peer or family resource groups.
  • Include your spouse in the work of the family.
  • Face the reality of working and caring. No supermon or superbaby fantasies.
  • Learn to save up energy in the workplace to be ready for homecoming.
  • Investigate all the options available at your workplace ~ on-site or nearby day care, shared-job options, flexible time arrangements, take leave if your child is ill.
  • Plan for children to fall apart when you arrive home after work. They've saved up their strongest feelings all day.
  • Gather the entire family when you walk in. Sit in a big rocking chair until everyone is close again. When the children squirm to get down, you can turn to chores and housework.
  • Take children along as you do chores. Teach them to help with the housework, and give them approval when they do.
  • Each parent should have a special time alone with each child every week. Even an hour will do.
  • Don't let yourself be overwhelmed by stress. Instead, enjoy the pleasures of solving problems together. You can establish a pattern of working as a team.

Write-ups on Trade Unions (Part 4)

This next topic is rather interesting as most employers' tend to have negative aspects towards the union and its members. Many a times employees' who are union members or officials are facing hard time with their superiors while at work. Superiors here doesn't necessarily mean the top management people or executives only, BUT worst is when the superiors are of supervisory levels, who are also non-executives or in another word, also a union member. That is why we tend to nickname such superiors as "executives of the non-executives".

Employers' Attitudes to Unions

How do employers perceive trade unions? Do they accept the idea of their workers joining unions? Employers' responses can be broadly classified as follows:
  • Conflict or open hostility - In Malaysia, there are some employers who would use their powers to prevent their workers joining unions. They consider unions to be a "third Party' intervention in the worker-employer relationship.
  • Controlled hostility - The employer recognises that employees have the right to form and join unions. However, discreet attempts are made to discourage workers from joining and being active in a union. Such action, if proven, would amount to interfering and is an offence under the Industrial Relations Act.
  • Accomodation - This attitude is one of realism. The employer is prepared to compromise with the union, tolerate it and be as reasonable as possible. This is a fairly typical attitude of most large companies today.
  • Cooperation - The management is encouraged to work with the union to promote the welfare of the organisation. Joint effort is seen as essential for the survival of the enterprise.
Being an ex-union official myself, I really wonder why most employers have to be so anti-union??? Why don't they change their mind-set or paradigm shift........ Accepting unions into a workplace can have more good effects than bad!! Union is always ready to work as partners with the management or employers for the good of the company. Employers should be able to think positively that unions, being co-partners of the company will assist them in the management of its employees, who are also union members. Responsible unions are always there to ensure its members strive hard for the benefits of the company and all its workers.

People say that life is colorful as the rainbow!
~Vijay Gupta ~

Most people seems happy when they see a rainbow, not only because it is hard to see one but because of its beauty. Whenever we look across the sky and see a rainbow, sure we will say "Look, there's the rainbow". If we have younger children sure we will ask them to look at it, appreciating its beauty, counting its colors and maybe singing the children's rainbow song. Though this is 'gone were the days' when my children were young, but the memories of it still lingers in my mind and heart. Every time when I see a rainbow in the sky, it still reminds me of the old days..........

Happy 'Friendship Day'.........

The first sunday of August is National Friendship Day, that is today....... 3rd August 2008!

Everywhere, people express love for their friends and cherish their presence in their lives. As it is a day to celebrate this noble feeling on the importance of friends, let me share with you some beautiful phrases.........

"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead
Walk beside me and be my friend!"
~ Albert Camus ~

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart,
and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words"

"Everyone is a friend, until they prove otherwise"

POEM - A Friend.........

A friend is like a golden key,
To treasure rich and rare,
To bring us understanding joy,
That only friends can share.

A friend is like an open door,
That bids you step inside,
To share the warmth and happiness,
With friendship at your side.

A friend is like a flower fair,
Whose petals do impart,
A lasting fragrance of the joy,
That lingers in the heart.

To all my dear friends out there....... wish you all have a great day ahead and enjoy the best of today, being "National Friendship Day". Don't forget to say 'HELLO' when you meet your friends today???? Hahahahaha!!!!

A Christian Song - God Is So Good

As I woke up this morning, there is a sudden urge of wanting to listen to some soothing music and songs. Saturday morning is always no rushing for me, it's a morning where I can laze in bed a little longer...... then do what I enjoy doing ..........

Guess what??? I went to my cassette cupboard (where I have a collection of old cassettes comprising of all types of songs and music - English, Chinese, Malay & also Christian songs). After giving it a look through and thought......... Aha.... why not listen to Charismatic Hymns! The first song to be played really caught my mind...... off course sing along with it - never let any opportunity slip pass when comes to singing. Let me share the lyric with you all......

God Is So Good

God is so good (2x)
He's so good to me

He took my sin (2x)
He's so good to me

Now I am free (2x)
He's so good to me

God is so good
He took my sin
Now I am free
He's so good to me.

For those who are christian, you must have known this hymn/song. What is important is not only the melody of this song, but the meaning of it. As I reflect the song to my life, I realise that God is truly good in all ways. He listens to all our prayers, especially in times when we are most in need of help or in a situation where we need to make a difficult decision. He also took away our sins and sets us free. The feeling of being set free is like a heavy burden being lifted out from us. Remember to constantly call onto the Lord for his protection, guidance and help - those who seek will find!

"May God Bless You Always & Forever"

Article about Cats [Part 3]

It is indeed interesting to get to know more about cats' behaviours as well as it's habits. The next topic which I would like to share about this lovable and cute CAT is.............

Cats Sleep

Cats normally spend almost two-thirds of each day sleeping. They also differentiate between five different kinds ranging from a light, sensory drift or "floating", through light sleep to three degrees of deep sleep. The first is the phenomenon of cat napping, which is so well recognised that the term describes that form of human sleep.

The length of the daily sleep is variable and seems conditioned by a well-satisfied appetite, sexual stimuli, age and the seasons. Young and old cats sleep more than a healthy adult cat. The combination of warmth, security and a full stomach can provoke drowsiness at every hour of the day for a cat of any age.

For cats that stay at home, the ideal place to sleep, is at an armchair, bed or owner's clothing in a laundry basket or on a window sill. Stray cats are happy to nestle in an abandoned box.

The cat makes numerous movements with its paws and whiskers while sleeping, which give the impression that it is dreaming. Feline insomnia is unknown. The usual useless experiments have shown that when prohibited to sleep for a week, a cat dies.

Because cat prefer the hours of twilight and darkness for many of their activities, the hours when they wish to sleep often do not coincide with our own.

Let me show you the sleeping cat 'in-action'............ Oh.... so CUTE!!
