Thank you to all Doctors..........

Today, 30th March is a special day to honour all doctors as it is Doctor's Day!! It is a time for us to thank and appreciate the doctors for keeping us healthy and happy.

Hey DOC......... as this is your day, hope you too have a great and wonderful day, which hopefully includes some time for yourself - you are always taking care of others, it is just right and fair that you have to take great and special care of yourself!! So, once again............

Make a difference by VOTING!

Being the first of it's kind in global history, 28th March (Saturday) 8.30 to 9.30pm. everyone is being invited to join the world for Earth Hour. To take part what we need to do is just to switch off our lights for that one hour. I wonder how many of us really join in this world's first global election, between Earth and global warming????

In the area where I am staying, most lights are still on during that period of time...... and sad to see that even my neighbour is having their Barbecue party that night, with extra lights on some more!! Meaning, those who did not cast their vote for Earth is in support of 'Global Warming' and........ it's really sad indeed!!! Why?????

Well, VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual and it is a call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet, for future generations. As everyone has a vote, thus we all need to comply to the call to save our Earth. By being part of the Earth Hour, it really makes a BIG difference!! Me and my family are indeed proud to have taken part in it as this is one global, worthy call to all mankind on this earth!! Bravo to all who cast their votes!!!

Article for sharing "What makes somebody a good boss?

I've read this article and found it worthy to be shared with all readers & friends.........

"Most experts now discredit the belief that a good manager is a born leader with certain definable traits, such as intelligence, confidence, assertiveness, empathy, and organizational skill. They also tend to dismiss the notion that leaders are born of circumstances. This once-popular idea holds that instead of being the right kind of person, a successful manager is simply someone who happens to be in the right place at the right time; and events then mold the lucky individual into an effective leader.

Today, most researchers believe that the capability of a manager depends on how his or her leadership style fits the work situation involved. According to one expert, the most revealing trait of leaders is whether they tend to give priority to getting a job done or to having good relations with their workers. In general, job-oriented managers fare better in situations where workers already get along well with one another and the task to be done is clearly defined. But when establishing good relations among workers is a major concern and the group's goals are less obvious, managers who excel at personal relations are more likely to be successful.

It is easier in some respects to define ineffective management practices than to describe what makes a good leader. A manager is not likely to get the best out of employees, for example, if he or she is constantly giving mixed signals, delegating responsibilities but not power, and failing to define the job to be done.

The effectiveness of an individual manager may change with circumstances. For example, an entrepreneur can be outstanding in spurring a small group to start a successful enterprise but many not be good at handling the complex organizational problems of the expanding corporation".

Every photo has a story........

In the old days my late father used to capture lots of our childhood photos using his manual huge 'square-box-type' camera. Not just that...... he even develop the photos himself in his own 'dark room'. As a child I love to observe what he did, it's interesting though...... and this is one expensive experience which none can have it now.

In this modern world of technology today, cameras are more sophisticated & it doesn't even need films and developing. Cameras are not the only method of photo taking. Many are making use of their Handphones for example for such purposes.

Though photo taking is made much easier & simpler today, I wonder whether how many really treasure the photos which they've taken??? How many do really view their photos carefully???

Friends...... if we care to observe carefully each of the photos which we've captured, you'll come to realise that every photo tells a story. Each individuals will have a different perception on what they view which thus inspire them personally. To some, it is just a photo but to others they're stunning photos which tells a story behind such great photos or even brings sweet & unforgettable memories which one will never forget.

After viewing through our home photos (not in the album though but disk) I've got here one stunning photo taken by our home photographer, Karen during one of our family holiday to share with all.........

Article for sharing "Dignity amidst change"

Here's an article by Bridget Menezes on "Dignity amidst change" to be shared with all........

"DIGNITY means to treat others the way I would like to be treated.

It is having respect for myself and taking time to reflect on my highest principles. Through this, I will be able to make accurate decisions and act.

When I maintain my dignity in this way, I will be held in high esteem by others. When I live according to my highest values and principles, many challenges will present themselves.

I will be able to deal with them knowing that the solutions lie in my own ability to get to the heart of an issue.

Dignity means to be serene in the midst of change, gracious and confident with people, staying at ease in my environment, like a tree deeply rooted into the earth, nourishing its shade-giving branches, and sustaining each and every leaf.

Whenever I meet anyone, I give the gift of good wishes, give virtue and receive a virtue.

No matter what feelings or desires someone may have, I definitely have to give this one gift.

When faced with crisis, people tend to lose their sense of dignity. As a result, rash decisions are made on the spur of the moment.

Dignity is to search my heart which helps me to understand that mistakes are really poor choices. Having accepted this, I get the courage to heal a relationship, and situations will stop recurring.

The habit of blaming will end and I will be free to learn and grow.

Thought for reflection: No matter what someone is like, your humility and good wishes will create an atmosphere to bring about change".

"Laughter Is The Best Medicine"

"Laugh as much as you breathe
and care as long as you live"
~ Author Unknown ~

"The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter"
~ Mark Twain ~

"A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book"
~ Irish Proverb ~

"Laughter, some said it's the best medicine in the world..........

So, start smiling and laughing as much as you can. Have a hearty laugh over every amusing situation. Laugh even at yourself and smile at the simplest pleasures in your life.

With smiles and laughter, your days will become lighter, more joyous and more bearable even on those hay-wired days. Your smiling face looks much more appealing and beautiful too.

Give away your smiles freely and in abundance. Spread your laughter around as its contagious."

To all wonderful people out there....... I am sharing these beautiful and meaningful "smile and laughter" quotes as today is "Let's Laugh Day". I really belief that "Laughter is the best medicine". At times when we are feeling down or when face with an unhappy situation, laughter can really helps relieve it as well as lighten any burden. Trust me, it really works!!!

Tips to share concerning 'Wisdom Teeth'

Here's something wise to share about the 'not-so-wise wisdom teeth'. Guess, we all need to know more so that when any of us are face with such a problem, then we are ready to deal with it without having to delay much longer, as well as getting some wrong information from the dentist.

Symptoms regarding a problem in wisdom teeth include swelling and redness of the gum around the eruption site, difficulty in opening the mouth and pain in the general area which may also run down the entire lower jaw or possibly the neck. If untreated it can progress to a much more severe infection.

Wisdom teeth are commonly extracted when they affect other teeth, such as when:
  1. tooth angled forward, towards the front of the mouth
  2. tooth forms does not erupt fully through the gum line
  3. tooth angled backward, towards the rear of the mouth
  4. the tooth is angled fully 90 degrees forward, growing into the roots of the second molar
So dear friends, let us all be more alert in the future, especially our family members, as a simple growing of one teeth might ends up with a big or major problem such as surgery. Always remember "prevention is better than cure!"

A Greenery to share.........

This greenery, which is popularly known by the Chinese as 'Japanese Bamboo' (direct Chinese translation to English) tends to bear flowers at certain time of the year. February is the month by which it never miss bearing flowers - I tends to remember cos' it is the Chinese Lunar New Year. It will normally bloom before or during this festive season. However, with this year's festive season falls on January, so we didn't get to see it bloom during the CNY but still it blooms in February.

Here's some pictures of it which I've captured from small buds to the fully bloom beautiful flowers to share........

Mind you....... this plants have been with us for over 20 years and is still growing strong & green. Apart from feeding it with fertilizers, we water it with rice water, i.e. water used for washing rice. Once a while, in my free time I'll wipe it's leaves with a piece of damp cloth to get rid of the dust which clings to it. Always remember to show love to our plants so that in return it will also show it's love to us by bearing beautiful flowers and leaves....... "Human being have lives & so does plants!!"

Women........ It's our day!!

I would like to call upon all women today as it is our Day!! It's International Woman's Day!! So let us all enjoy this day to the fullest. This day is special to all wonderful people which includes Grandmothers, Mothers, Aunts, Daughters, Sisters & all female friends as well as strangers, who are from near & far.

We must always bear in mind that women have been playing a vital role in today's society, be it at home, workplace, schools, hospitals, just to mention a few. By knowing and acknowledging our responsibilities & needs to be useful women citizens, it enables women to reach greater heights in whatever things that each and every woman pursue in their life. I believe that achieving success in a woman's life need not necessarily be her career, as women have many roles to play. A successful career woman might not have a successful family life or even social life for the matter. What is important is the ability to strike a perfect balance amongst all the roles that each woman have to face each day.

On this special day, I would like to send my warmest greetings to all woman throughout this whole wide world & wishing you all the best in your daily undertakings & may God bless you always!!

"Wisdom Teeth" ain't that WISE afterall.....

Throughout my life I never come to realise that "Wisdom Teeth" can really cause so much of a problem - well..... what we know is "If your Wisdom Teeth really DO grow, then it will be very painful during this stage, after that it will be fine!"

Dear friends, it is not as simple as that! We really need to come across this situation in order to know the real thing about this so called "Wisdom Teeth".

Why is it called "Wisdom Teeth?" The 3rd Molar Teeth or known as Wisdom Teeth because they appear so late - much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are presumably wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupts. Aha..... I just get to know the reason for it's name - after I browse through the Internet for it's detailed information!

I still remember, sometimes towards the middle of last year, when my daughter Karen informed me of the swelling of her gum & severe pain, I could only tell her that "I think you are having your Wisdom Teeth". Normally we tends to think in that way cos' what we know is having such teeth growing is very painful, worst is I, myself haven't experience it either (from what I know!!)

She did go to a dentist (at the town where she study), but nothing is being said about the Wisdom Teeth, just "you need to do scaling". It is not only when she came back for her semester break recently, that I brought her to a dentist in Kuching and to our surprises the Doc said "You have already got your 2 top Wisdom Teeth fully grown but your 2 bottom ones are no where to be seen, so you need to do an X-Ray to confirm whether they are there but not erupted..... or.....or...... Anyway, the X-Ray was immediately done then, & found that her teeth cannot erupt fully as it doesn't grow upright, so these 2 teeth have to be removed through an operation, then again could only be done by a dental surgeon, not a normal dentist. Another scary thing is (which we just knew too), without the 2 bottom wisdom teeth, the other 2 top ones (which are already fully in place) needs to be extracted!! "Oh! my goodness!!"....... I really feel my heart jumped cos' not only that Karen have to have 2 operations of her wisdom teeth, but also extract the 2 fully grown healthy ones!!!

However, I should say that she is a brave girl, immediately she gave her consent to have one extracted, then another one a week later. The dentist is rather kind to write a recommendation letter for her to be referred to the General Hospital for the operation (as that's the only place where it can be done) and since her semester break is coming to an end, so she is referred to the hospital in the town where she pursue her study instead of in Kuching.

Yesterday, she got one of the teeth operated and the doctor is giving her antibiotics as she will be experiencing swelling & severe pain after the operation. Luckily, it's the weekend so she can have her complete rest.

To come to think of it....... "Wisdom Teeth" are not that wise afterall..........

With Karaoke, Now Everyone Can SING!

There is no denial that this 'self-named' slogan "With Karaoke, Now Everyone Can Sing" is truly fitting in today's scenario.

Before Karaoke is being made popularized, people usually confine their singing in their bathrooms. Today, with Karaoke, everyone has a chance to sing their hearts out in public, such as at Wedding Receptions, Anniversary Dinners, Gatherings or Parties.

Though Karaoke has transformed most receptions into evenings with noise which creates laughter, joys, applause, etc, but........ to some who prefers to engage in small talks with old friends who are sitting at the same table, it might be seen as a disturbance as there is not a moment of silence.

Whatever it is, it all boils down to the interests of each individuals and their thinking.

Based on my personal views, I really feel that with Karaoke more people have the opportunities to try out their singing talents as singing has been a 'hidden talent' for many. So...... why not let those talents be revealed so that it won't go to waste!! On the other hand, with Karaoke one gets to sing without having to be perfect in it, unlike singing with a 'life band'. So, let's KARAOKE..........

I Wonder???? What kind of a 'Role Model'!

The word 'Role Model' is being widely taught & used everywhere today, such as in Schools, Institutions of Higher Learning, in any Workshops, Conventions, Seminars & Courses sessions, in work places or offices, in motivation books or magazines, as well as in the home.

In this modern era where most people are well educated (as compared to the earlier years), it is assumed that most citizens should be 'good' role models in the society, but...... to our astonishment this is not the case!!

While driving along Kuching City, you are often bound to observe certain 'irresponsible & care less' citizens who will just 'chuck-out' their rubbish from their moving vehicle as if they are the only person on the road, not even having a slightest feeling of shamefulness!

"Role Model" are people who serves as an example and whose behaviour is imitated by others. So, if more people are behaving as "bad" role models, what will be the outcome of our future generations???? Remember....... the younger generations are always following what the present or older generations people are doing. Picking up those bad examples & behaviours will only do more harm to our future generations rather than helping them.

Thus, I really hope & wish that we will all be 'good' role models rather than being 'bad' so as to save our future generations.

"Realizing that our actions, feelings and behaviour are the result of our own images and beliefs gives us the level that psychology has always needed for changing personality"
~ Maxwell Maltz ~
