My last Blog for February 2008

How fast time really pass! Just a while ago we celebrate Chinese New Year.... Today is already the last day of February 2008. I am really proud to note that I've got 11 Blogs for the month of February, though it's a busy month but still manage to get it going. Whenever I've got the idea in my head I have to immediately put it down in writing inorder not to let the idea slips off.... guess that's how I manage!

Talking about the month of February..... it's indeed sad for those who are born on the 29th cos' 'No Birthday' this year...... Better off right??? If no celebrate birthday then you won't be one year older..... You will be "Forever Young" - So Blessed indeed! I would like to wish all you special people out there through this Birthday Song.......

"Happy Birthday To You
Happy Birthday To You
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday To You
How Old Are You Now
How Old Are You Now
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
How Old Are You Now???"

Finally The Sun Shines In Kuching City!!

Kuching folks must be so happy now...... finally the sun shines after Chap Goh May! We have been experiencing rain for quite a while and now with the sunshine, we really feel HOT! Aha.... complain pula.... It's not complain but just expressing......

As we are in a tropical country, we really look forward to both rain and sun - so get used to it. Like recently we get to have rain but no sun, then we can feel that we are really missing something in our daily life. Remember this song.......

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You makes me happy
When skies are grey
You never know dear
How much I love you
Please dont take my sunshine away!

A Sharing On My Working Life......

I started working in March 1981 in a Government Department, which after 5 years being transformed into a privatised company. Being appointed as a Storekeeper, my place of work of course is in a Store. You might ask - What do you mean by store?? Well.... day in day out I am surrounded by all male colleagues (as no female working in store, especially in the early years); working under tall, huge buildings with BIG Iron Doors to every entrance - which is called Warehouses or Godowns; situated in an Industrial Zone whereby everyday we inhale and are exposed to the smelly and dirty polluted air; the only means of transport/equipments we use and see are Forklifts and Reach Truck; and worst are all big, huge, heavy and tall items (items stacked up very high) surrounding us in all four corners of our workplace. I used to wonder...... "What happen if any of those big, huge items accidentedly drop or collapse... What will become of us?? "A Flattened Dwarf!!" Why I used the word "Dwarf"??? Well... simple..... The items are all so big and huge which makes us all like a DWARF!

Despite such a situation and environment..... I continued to be a persistent, hardworking and responsible worker, not with a word of complain! Just imagine, when I was pregnant, I still continue with my work as usual without any second thought concerning my own health and safety. At times when I look back, I really thank God for His protection and guidance over me and that is why I am able to have 3 healthy children despite all odds! "Praise The Lord"!

In between the years, I have on two occasion apply to HR requesting for a sectional transfer, but I was turn down - so sad indeed! Despite that, I never give up hope. It was only after 20 years 3 and a half months of my working life in Store that my application was finally approved and I was transfer to another Unit.

So to speak, Human Resourse Department is a very important unit in any company - big or small. HR Officers are responsible in the management of all the employees, who are the biggest assets of a company, thus they should not be biaise, should be able to put themself in another person's shoes, should be 'Human' not 'inhuman' and they should also be able to perfom their responsibilities with a sincere heart! Another important point is, they should not have the attitute of 'I like you, I don't like you'. Every employee have the right to voice out what is in their mind and they should not be punished for speaking up. Who knows their suggestions or ideas are good!

This is easier talk than done! In today's genuine environment it is not such.... There are bound to be repercussions!!

Don't worry so much about repercussions my friends... instead get to know your Rights! If you know your rights then you won't be in a 'dead-end'. When things happen you know how to go about with it. So.... Cheer Up.... Live Life To The Fullest!!

Why so confused Big Boy??

This picture is 'A Tale Of A Confused Big Boy'...... I wonder whether he is awake or sleep walking?? Wandering in the forest, alone and half asleep is real dangerous.... Agree? Aha.... with a camera in his hand somemore..... I wonder what is he up to??

Video Clip - UTES Picketing

Friends and strangers, all the same..... I have here a Video Clip on UTES Picketing to share with all. This is the 1st picket which the workers of our company experience ourselves. I have attended several pickettings of our sister's union earlier but for our own company, it is the 1st experience.... Besides feeling frustrated, angry and dissatisfied with the actions of the management BUT we really enjoy ourselves - being able to voice out all the grievances! Hope you all enjoy watching it. Will write further on this topic in times to come. God Bless You All.....

A wet Kuching City in the Year of the Rat!

It has been rather wet before the Lunar New Year. Somehow, I thought that with the coming of the year of the Rat, the rain will go and the sun will shine... but to our surprises.... the rain keeps pouring in Kuching City!! Till today, we have been seeing more rain than sunshine. We also experienced strong wind with a cool surrounding. Hope that after the 20th day of Chinese New Year the rain will stop. You might ask me why on the 20th day of CNY?? For the older generation people, this has already been a tradition that we have to eat 'Nian Gao' or in another word Chinese New Year Cake on this day. This sweet, sticky cake will prevent the rain from continuously pouring. I really wonder..... how many youngsters really know of this cake in the first place, and how many of them know how to eat this Nian Gao??? Anyway, just give it a thought!!!

Chinese New Year Eve Lunch

6th February 2008 is Chinese New Year Eve for all Chinese celebrating this auspicious occasion. This year is really special cos' my two older children Alex and Karen are around for the reunion "lunch". Also present with us are my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. We're really happy that they're able to join us and we hope for many2 more to come in the future years (chinese saying - hope you all know what I mean)! Though I am alone preparing and cooking, thank God, I still manage to cook quite a number of dishes..... Though tired but it's worthwhile..... and I really feel very satisfied! We also ordered Salmon Yee Sang from Hilton Hotel. This is where we all get together to toss the colourful salad and make wishes for continued wealth, success, health, prosperity and many more, depending on the needs of each individuals.

A night stay at Santubong Resort on CNY

Unlike other years, this year is different for our family...... We didnt fixed a day for 'open-house'. We visited our elders and close relatives on 1st day of CNY. On 2nd day, we pack up and proceed to Santubong Resort. As my children are all around this year, we intend to take a family rest there where our family can spend quality time together.... Smart hah! The rain didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves there..... We still manage to take lots of photos - under the rain... with umbrellas somemore. For those who have never experience such a situation - Go for it, grab the chance and I can assure you that you're sure to enjoy it! This is also the first time where the whole family play Pool game together - of course exclude me la, become their camera women and cheerleader - enough la! At night we play card game (Black Jack) in the room.... How well we spend our precious time.... Alas.... it's a holiday worth spending!

Poor, Poor Doggie.........

Our pets at home are always looking for place of hideouts during this season of the Lunar New Year. The loud sound of fire crackers are really scary, not to say dogs and cats, even human! My dog, Darkie is having no appetite for food (even the best dog food), too scared to walk out of the gate to pee even and is seen all day either under the car or behind the flower pots. However for my friend Lena's dog, it will climb up the stairs, up her daughter's bed and stay there when sounds of fire crackers are heard! This is the difference between big and small dog.

Praise The Lord! At last we have a hot sunny day, what more it's Sunday..... All chores done! So we are ready for "Kong Hee Fatt Choy". Sounds like small kid looking forward to Chinese New Year. Anyway it's only celebrated once a year - sure looking forward to it. But one thing for sure, have to go through a lot of hard work to welcome this festive occasion. Well.... it's worth it!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

It has been rather wet off late! As the Lunar New Year is just round the corner, guess what?? Cleaning and washing is the most required tasks. But due to the rain it's rather hard to get our chores done. Clothes, curtains, bedsheets, etc are seen hanging inside and outside of all houses.....
So much I wish "Rain, rain go away, Come again some other day, Rain, rain go away, Bring us all a sunny day".
