A Traditional Lunar New Year Dish

This dish which I am going to introduce you is one of the Chinese traditional dish which uses different varieties of dried ingredients, and is vegetarian. However, today this dish is also being cooked and eaten by the other races. It is proven by my ex-neighbour, a bidayuh who at one time cooked it and even gave some to my family.

This dish can be cooked dry or as stew/soup. The ingredients used are Shiitake Mushrooms, Beansticks, Woodears, Golden Lily Buds, Glass Noodles & Cabbage. For the original flavour we cooked it with nam yee or fermented red bean curds. Dark Soya Sauce can also be used instead of nam yee, but off course the flavour/taste will be different.

My Mum used to cook this dish on the morning of every Lunar New Year, and when we visit her we will be able to enjoy eating it.

The pictures above comprises of 2 versions..... the one on the left is Mum's & the right is my (daughter's) version........ hehehe.......
