"People ask the difference between a leader and a boss........ The leader works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the boss drives"
~ Theodore Roosevelt ~

There has always been a big difference between a leader and a boss, be it in a small or big organisation.

By right a boss should be a good leader in the first place so that he/she can lead his workforce to achieve great heights. But situations are not always such as most bosses prefer to drives than lead. This is proven in a phrase which says 'the boss is always right!' Many a times, bosses also make mistakes or a wrong decision. We don't question when such situations arise cos' they are also human being..... and human tends to make mistakes once a while, which is very natural! But to the boss, they will prefer us to just follow whatever their decisions, do not say anything, which in another word, just say "Yes Boss".

A leader will always brainstorm, discuss or conduct dialog sessions with its subordinates, members or followers before making any decisions to get concensus. The final decisions made will also be more effective as the ideas doesn't comes from one head but many. Meaning to say, the leader's decision is collective but a boss decision is always personal!!

I really agree with you as most bosses are having the attitude of 'The boss is always right', thus giving no chances for the underhand to view their ideas. When they make any wrong decisions, they just pretend to keep quiet.

I enjoy reading your article and hoping you'll continue to write. Keep it up!

A Boss need not neccesarily be a Good Leader.

A Good Leader must first gain the confidence and support of his men.

A Good Leader identifies himself with his men.He leads the people without them knowing that he does.

A Good Leader must set the example.
He is sincere, unassuming and normally he is a good listener.

A Smart Leader will relate and plan with his men. The 'Bigness' of a Leader is measured by his capability to put himself in the other man's place.

A True Leader will be there to take the 'blow'. He never passes the blame down being a man of sterling worth, full of integrity.

Leaders don't blame others......
They should be responsible and gentlemen enough to hear and accept the truth!

That is the problem these days with bosses not being a good leader.... I still strongly believe that all bosses should have all theleadership qualities or else it will creates havoc within the organisation, his men and finally himself too!

Anyway, thanks deecrab for your giving me useful tips on LEADERS.
