Bau Wind Cave

This Wind Cave (known as Gua Angin in Bahasa Malaysia) is located in the limestone area of Bau to the southwest of Kuching. It is a very popular local tourist destination close to Kuching. According to history, it probably received its name from the draught of air which passes through the passage leading to the Sungei Sarawak Kanan on which it is situated.

The western entrance of the cave has a small beach adjacent to the Sarawak River. It is a favourite picnic and swimming spot that has gained in popularity.

To enter and explore the cave, torches are needed. The main cave passages are wide with flat roofs, while the smaller passages form an irregular network in the northern section of the cave.

In the cave are properly built broadwalks. After 50m. on the broadwalk you will reach a platform which leads to beautiful chambers with swiftlet nests of bats hangging around - very nice for photos!!

The major features in the cave include the stalagmites and stalactites and pillars which form when these two join together. The limestone of the cave is pale grey or blue in colour. Deposits of clay as well as thin layers of guano or rock phosphate are found throughout the cave.

This is another beauty which nature has to offer...... I wonder how many locals (from Kuching) have really visited this place?? Anyway, it is never too late..... let's come and explore this beautiful cave which our very own Kuching City has to offer!! Don't Miss it my friends........
