The scented full-bloom Sui Mei

The endless effort of my hubby in maintaining his Sui Mei Bonsai generates great rewards. After pruning we always look forward to "blooming".  This particular plant always gives us great pride and satisfaction with endless blooming as well as generating natural scented perfume which fills our garden.

The flower buds are seen sprouting throughout the whole plant and not long after that we gets to see the beautiful "full bloom!"

Few days later the flowers starts to drop... after which the whole process repeats again.

Wrightia Plant (Part 3)

Interested to know how the seeds of Wrightia Plant looks like??? Though this plant do have seeds but not all do produce...... some you can hardly see at all. Surprisingly amongst our collection, we recently observe one particular plant which have seeds growing all over.

When this picture was taken, there are still many seeds which are still small, thus it cannot be clearly seen yet. This plant is planted from its seed, however most Wrightia Plants are planted using its roots.

Wrightia Plant (Part 2)

Planting Bonsai is my husband's favourite hobby. Every weekend he is seen busy taking care of them. Bonsai is a living thing, thus like a normal tree or plant it has basic needs like water, sunlight and care.

Here are some gardening guidelines that will help keep the plant healthy and beautiful:-

1. Water the plant daily - Wrightia loves water, so have to water at least once or twice a day
2. Sunlight - Like other plants, Wrightia needs sunlight to produce food through the process of photosynthesis. Thus it should be place outdoor to receive as much sunlight as possible.
3. Trimming/Pruning - Unwanted leaves/branch sticking out of the plant's original shape should be trimmed once every few weeks or months. Regular pruning will keep the bonsai back in shape.
4. Wiring (shaping the tree) - Occasionally, there is need to shape or reshape the bonsai. To shape the trunk or branch we can use either copper or aluminium wires.
5. Soil Mixture - The types of soil to use is baked earth mixed with organic compost.
6. Repotting - Once the soil has hardened or when water drainage is poor, the plant needs to be repot to promote growth (new soil mixture will help to provide the plant with space to grow and help to rejuvinate new growth).
7. Feeding the plant - The amount of fertiliser to put depends on the size of the tree/bonsai. Do not overfeed as it will kill the plant.

A Wrightia Bonsai plant will normally full bloom after each pruning and trimming. Not only that I love to see it's flowers but also it's fragrance smell.

Wrightia Plant (Part 1)

Locally known as Water Jasmine, Sui Mui or Jelati. Wrightia is the most commonly plant used for bonsai. When it blooms or bears flowers - well.... can be a source of natural perfume!!

If you are interested to know further..... aha.... during every Chinese New Year it's flowers changes colour. We used to take photo with this Wrightia every CNY, after it changes colour...... what do you think??? beautiful????
I think you're all too smart to be tricked by me.... haha! The plant is of course Wrightia. Usually my husband will look around in our garden to get one which have many beautiful branches, that is few days before CNY. Then he will pluck off all it's leaves, finally put the fake flowers onto it's branches (big and small). This is just to resemble the Lunar New Year..... SMART haaah!
