Excitement..... curiosity...... happiness..... joy..... along side with big responsibilities ahead!
Everyone are feeling excited over the arrival of a new member to our family, both me and hubby are supposed to go for a holiday to Langkawi in September 2011 but decided to cancel our trip instead ~ smile ~
It's sort of each and everyone are being promoted - from parents to become grandparents, cousins are now uncles and aunties, uncles and aunties are promoted to grandaunt and granduncle and not to mention my mother-in-law and mum are holding the highest portfolio of GREAT GRANDMOTHERS - WoW!!!
It's not easy to be a grandmother though..... during the one month confinement period for Brendan's mum or rather during Brendan's first month, every morning, much more earlier than usual, me and hubby are off to the market to buy the needed fresh ingredients for the confinement lady to cook as well as for my own daily cooking for the rest of the family members. Having a new born baby in the home means lots of skills to sharpen and more new things to learn in line with today's modern world. Bathing a tiny little baby seem so difficult for me and it takes me three long weeks of observation for me to build up my guts! Well, maybe it's simply because in a week's time the confinement lady's service will be ending, and grandma is the sole person who is going to take over this task for the time being, while mummy starts sharpening her skills......
Soon enough, mummy's maternity leave is over and she needs to go back to KL to work and Brendan is left under my care. It's indeed a real big change for me and at that moment of time, though I am considered well prepared, but at the back of my mind I am doubting myself whether I can really make it?? Days, weeks, months passed, watching a small baby turned one is just great! When he turned 15 months, we all decided to let him try on half day nursery, to get himself acquainted with the environment and most importantly is to prepare him for his home-coming to be with his parents, soon!
Six months later, we find ourselves preparing for Brendan to return to his new nest in KL! With this breaking news many friends came asking me "how do you feel? will you miss him?? will you be lonely especially after nearly 2 long years of having him with you??? Oh dear!! though I know I'll miss him a lot but my positive thinking tells me that "he should be with his parents," "I've cared for him long enough and it's time for his parents to take over this responsibility," and "grandma needs to relax and enjoy life."
It has been five months since he's back to his own nest, and I am so happy and glad to see him so well settled! As grandma, I made frequent monthly visits to spend time with him and as usual whenever he sees me he will give me those happy warm welcome. During my last visit he starts calling me "ar ah", though he haven't get the pronounciation right yet, but I know that he will get the word "Ma Mah" right, soon..... will it be a Christmas surprise??? Let's keep my fingers crossed!
The month of November has always been so memorable for me! Seven years ago I see myself being freed from my working life, which are full of hardships, suffering, discrimination and discontentment! After 26 years 8 months I finally let this big change brings great meaning to my life - I can have all the freedom that I need to do whatever I want! If I dare not take the challenge then, I would not have the opportunity to care for my grandson Brendan. Like I used to say "no regrets!"

I always believe that 'happiness' doesn't just creep into one's life, for some it needs a little sacrifice while others might need a much bigger sacrifice in order to achieve it! Maybe, mine is a much heavier sacrifice that I have to make, but it's so worth while ~ SMILES ~
