Celebrating CNY the UNIQUE way...... [Part 4]

"KONG HEE FATT CHOY", it's 14th February 2010, the 1st day of the Lunar New Year! Since I am the first to wake up, so I am the first to get freshen up and put on my new clothes, then followed by the rest of my family members.

In Melaka what we observe is that most of the houses as well as shop houses have their doors hanged with long red cloth, and surprisingly the Home & Stay that we stay was also hanged with it when we wake up in the early morning......

As usual, on the morning of CNY we never miss taking our family photo. We check-out early roughly about eight as we intended to visit the famous A Famosa, hoping that in the early morning the sun won't be that glaring & hot. On our way we saw The Church of St. Francis Xavier packed with people attending the Chinese New Year Mass.

We also passed through the Muzium Samudera or Maritime Museum in English, which is the replica of the Frol de la mar ship, Melaka.

Below shows the gate of A Famosa which is the only remains of the ruins to this present day. We have to walk up the many steps in order to get up to the top.

On top was a Church constructed by the Portuguese Captain, Duarte Coelho and was named "Our Lady of The Hill" but was later turned into a burial ground by the Dutch for their noble dead and renamed 'St. Paul's Church'. The body of St. Francis Xavier was interred here temporarily before it was taken to Goa, India.

After completing our tour round A Famosa we headed to Old Town White Coffee for our breakfast, off course for a cup of freshly brewed coffee, which is something that we cannot miss!

After our breakfast, we continued on with our journey to Port Dickson. Due to the festive season most of the beaches are packed with people and no availability of parking space. So we drive on till we finally get our car parked & take a walk under the hot sun to this beach.........

After enjoying ourselves with the beautiful scenery we walked back to our cars & headed on with our journey. We made another stop for Pizza........

This electronic device (top left) is something which I've not seen in Pizza Hut, Kuching. Its meant for us to press for services - CALL, BILL, CANCEL.

After this hearty meal of Pizza we all feel energetic, especially Karen....... let me show you her pictures to confirm what I am saying........

(Left) before .......... (Right) after..........

We headed on to KL and reached home about half past four. It was indeed a looooong day of travel, stop, look-see, take photos, eat and on..... and on....... It is really a FUN Day of travel for our family!

Celebrating CNY the UNIQUE way...... [Part 3]

After refreshing ourselves with a good cold bath, roughly about six in the evening, again we head our way and this time we are looking out for a place to have our Reunion Dinner in Melaka. Alex thought of the Portuguese Settlement area and we all made few rounds of search and finally made it.

To our amazement, this place is stunning!!

Besides it's beautiful scenery there is also a large Food Court with many stalls selling Seafood....... so we ended up having our family's Chinese New Year's Eve Reunion Dinner here.
After we finished our dinner, its nearly dark, so we left and we all decided to have a walk to see the various historical places around the city.

We take a walk through the Dutch Square which is the heart of the City of Melaka, we manage to see many popular Churches - St. Francis Xavier, The Christ Church, Queen Victoria Fountain & many beautifully lighted & decorated Trishaws awaiting for customers. As we walk across the Melaka River from the Dutch Square, we see the long houses of Heeren Street and then towards Jonker Street. Jonker Walk is almost identical to Petaling Street where many hawkers set up their stalls along the whole street selling varieties of items.

Roughly about 9 o'clock we walk back to our car and drove to Melaka Bus Terminal to fetch Karen who is on her journey back from Kuala Terengganu. When we get back to our Home & Stay we get changed, exchange of Ang Pows, then retire for the night as we are all real tired & exhausted after a whole day of travel.
